HYDERABAD, AUG. 31. A committee, comprising prominent citizens, has been constituted to monitor and supervise the financial activities of the Little Hearts Foundation, which was formed by the CARE Hospital to provide succour to children born with heart defects. Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, B. Soma Raju, Chairman, CARE Hospital, said the Foundation, which was launched with a personal donation made by the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, had received support from all sections of society. "The Foundation raised money that was far beyond our expectations, but still is not fully sufficient to address the enormous task," he said.
Pat for hospital
The Chairman of the monitoring committee, Justice B.P. Jeevan Reddy, appreciated the humanitarian gesture of the hospital and assured all possible support. A committee member, Jayaprakash Narayan, of Lok Satta stressed the need to spread awareness on the factors leading to congenital heart defects. Film producer, D. Suresh, said some films on the subject would be shot and shown on television and big screen. Other members of the committee, including Swami Parmarthananda of the Ramakrishna Math, Sreeni Raju of Ilabs, and Amarnath Menon of India Today, also spoke. According to Gopichand Mannam of the CARE Hospital, a total of 1,562 patients have registered and 490 of them were already evaluated. "At the rate of one to two surgeries a day, we have lined-up the schedule till February next year," he said.
