KOLKATA, SEPT. 1. One of the long standing records of the Inter-Railway meet was successfully sunk after 19 long years on the opening day of the 45th all-India inter-Railway aquatic meet at the Subhas Sarobar pool here on Wednesday. Gairik Bardhan of Eastern Railway clocked 2:29.81s to establish a new mark in the 200m breaststroke. His effort eclipsed R. Jayakumar's (Southern) best of 2:38.10 set in 1985. Khokan Haldar of South Eastern and A. Rajamani of Western were second and third respectively. The second record of the day was set in the 50m butterfly where K. Rajiv of Southern timed 26.82s thus obliterating Sudip Chatterjee's (Eastern) previous best of 26.83s. Chatterjee himself was second with 27.44 while R. Viramani of Southern was third.
200m backstroke: 1. Akbar Ali Mir 2:21.35s, 2. Deepesh Bairagi (ER)2:24.17, 3. M.K. Jaya Prasad (SR) 2:27.20.
200m breaststroke: 1. Gairik Bardhan (ER) 2:29.81s (NMR, previous R. Jayakumar (SR) 2:38.10s in 1985), 2. Khokan Haldar (SER) 2:43.25, 3. A. Rajamani (WR) 2:45.45.
50m butterfly: 1. K. Rajiv (SR) 26.82s (NMR, previous Sudip Chatterjee (ER) 26.83s in 2001), 2. Sudip Chatterjee (ER) 27.44, 3. R. Viramani (SR) 27.59.
4x 200m freestyle relay: 1. Eastern 8:32.06s, 2. Western 8:49.94, 3. Southern 9:02.35.
