Jockey Kannan ends eventful career
HYDERABAD,
SEPT. 2.
Jockey S. Kannan bid adieu to racing after a career spanning nearly 19 years. Prior to his professional stint, he was a student of the Hyderabad Race Club (HRC) Apprentice Jockeys School's first batch from 1982.
In keeping with the tradition of his Principal, Pandu Khade, Kannan proved a worthy disciple of his mentor. He not only emerged as the best jockey in the first batch but also endeared himself to the racing public with his ethics. He rode nearly 500 winners in an eventful career.
Accidents over the years resulted in chronic pain in his ankle, forcing him to step out of the stirrup for good. Consequently, he surrendered his licence to the HRC recently with an aim to return to his native Coimbatore and start a textile business.
