Letters to the Editor
Sir, The article, "Social justice and reservation scheme" (Aug. 24) has referred to the varna-jaathi system as the cause of the evils of the caste system. `Varnasrama' was only a social division based on occupation. It deteriorated in course of time.
K. Panchapagesan,
Sir, The article smacks of unjustifiable hatred for a community. Seers such as Ramanuja and Raghavendra taught Vedas to all the people, irrespective of caste and creed. It is also incorrect to say that only Brahmins got the benefit of the study of Vedas. There have been many eminent, non-Brahmin Sanskrit scholars.
M. Balasubramaniyam,
