Trade union activists held

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 2. Activists of the Pondicherry unit of the Central Council of Trade Unions led by its president, S. Balasubramanian, were arrested today when they attempted to picket the Head Post office here. The activists were responding to a call from their apex body to criticising the lack of an appropriate policy in tackling people's problems.

They also condemned the policy of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre to encourage foreign direct investment in key public sectors.

The interest rate cut for the Employees Provident Fund also came under fire.
