Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 2. All government and private schools in Pondicherry sending students for pubic examinations were directed not to insist on caste certificates from the Revenue Department. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, said here today that the Directorate of School Education through its circular had asked the school authorities to be lenient and not to insist on the certificates if the students were not able to produce the same within the stipulated date. The nominal roll prepared by the schools could indicate in the column relating to the `caste' of the candidate as `other caste' (OC). When students produced the certificates the school records including the transfer certificate registers may be updated after due approval from the Inspecting Officers, the Minister said. The instruction comes into immediate effect.
