HYDERABAD, SEPT. 2. The Minister for Mines and Geology, P. Sabitha Indira Reddy, has said that no action will initiated against farmers who have drawn power illegally for their bore wells keeping in view the standing crops. Speaking at a meeting at Proddutur village in Shankerpalli mandal of Ranga Reddy on Thursday after inaugurating the SC community halls and DPEP school building, the Minister said the Government was concerned about the farmer's problems and in tune with its election promise had announced free power to the farm sector. She said a recent survey indicated that five lakh illegal power connections were in existence. She said Government was contemplating regularisation of illegal connections in phased manner. This year about 50,000 power connections would be regularised, she said appealing to the farmers not to resort to the extreme act of committing suicide. She criticised the Opposition parties for trying to gain political mileage out of suicides by farmers.
Drinking water scheme
She promised to take up construction of a protected drinking water scheme in the SC colony besides commissioning the pending electricity sub-station. She said power supply would be provided to the schools to enable the students watch educational programmes on television.
