Dies after taking pesticide

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 2. Sreedevi (24), wife of Satheeshkumar, Utharamkode, Kuttichal, who consumed the pesticide, furidan, was brought to the Medical College Hospital where she was declared dead. The body has been kept in the mortuary.

Run over by train

The body of a man, approximately 50 years'old, was found run over by a train on the railway track near Poundkadavu on Thursday. The body has been kept in the mortuary of the Medical College Hospital.

Five arrested

The Fort police on Thursday arrested five persons in connection with the murder of S. Ayyappan, a KSRTC employee at Attukal on Thiruvonam day. They have been identified as Shyam (20), Suresh (20), Manoj (19), Vivek (22) and Vinod (28), all of whom are residents of Kanjippura, Manacaud.

Injured

Haridasan (56), a resident of Vellar, Kovalam, who was travelling in a KSRTC bus, was injured when some youth threw stones at the bus at Thiruvallam on Thursday. He has been admitted to the Medical College Hospital.

Train blocked

Shiv Sena activists who were protesting at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station on Thursday against the change in train timings, blocked the Parasuram Express. They demanded that the old train timings be retained or more passenger trains started to solve the problems of daily commuters. They demanded that more general compartments be attached to the Mail and Express trains.

Mobile counter

The BSNL Telecom District Thiruvananthapuram has decided to open a mobile bill counter at the Telegraph office, Attingal, from September 6 onwards for the convenience of customers.

Protest

The Confederation of University Employees' Organisations will stage protests at all the universities in the State tomorrow. Some of their demands include appointment of additional staff wherever required, restoration of benefits of employees, reconstitution of the administrative committees of universities and training for employees.

NSS training

The two-day State-level leadership training programme of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Technical Cell will be held here on September 4 and 5. Around 175 volunteers from six southern districts and 25 programme officers are taking part in the workshop.
