Letters to the Editor
Sir, That the Russian troops stormed the school building in Beslan and rescued most of the hostages bears testimony to the leadership quality and firmness of President Vladimir Putin. This is the second time he has displayed firmness in dealing with Chechen terrorists. Even when the school was under siege for two days, there was no whipping up of mass hysteria by the Russian media. Anxious relatives were also composed. Compare this to the Kandahar crisis, when relatives of the hijacked passengers went on a protest march with the Opposition parties and the so-called intelligentsia supporting them.
