NEW DELHI, SEPT. 3. Four Punjab Police personnel, from whose custody an undertrial owing allegiance to Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) escaped from near Bara Hindu Rao Hospital in North Delhi on August 23 night, have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on charges of conspiring to facilitate his escape. They were remanded to five-day police custody by a Delhi court on Friday. According to the police, Head Constable Raj Kumar, Constables Surender Singh, Bhupender Singh and Gurender Pal of the Punjab police were arrested after the Special Cell found loopholes in their statements about the incident. The police personnel claimed that they had brought the alleged KCF terrorist, Gursewak, who was lodged in Nabha Jail in Punjab, for hearing at Tis Hazari. Gursewak was charged with sedition and carrying explosives in a case registered at Punjabi Bagh police station in West Delhi in 1998. The case had come up for hearing in the court of Additional Sessions Judge, Yogesh Khanna, at Tis Hazari and he was supposed to appear between August 23 and 26. The accused police personnel brought him to Delhi on August 23 and claimed that they were taking him to Subzi Mandi lock-up when Gursewak complained of chest pain. The four police personnel told the police that they were taking Gursewak to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital when their vehicle broke down and they had to proceed on foot. On the way, Gursewak fled from the scene "taking advantage of the darkness." During investigations, the Special Cell apparently found that Gursewak had no previous records of illness.
