ERODE, SEPT. 4 . The Director, Union Ministry of Small Scale Industries, Rajat Bansal, has called upon engineering students to start industries of their own. At the valedictory of the three-day national-level student's technical symposium, conducted at the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology that concluded on Friday, he exhorted the students to gear up to face the challenges of global competition.
Immense oportunities
He pointed out that new opportunities awaited students of Information Technology, bio-technology, food processing, packaging and energy sectors. The service sector also offered immense opportunities. Emphasising the importance of entrepreneurship, he said youth should start small-scale industries. The 11-million small-scale industries registered in India contributed to 40 per cent of the gross domestic products and 32 per cent of the exports. It also provided employment opportunities to 27 million people. The Director of the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, S.K. Sundararaman, said that the symposium provided an opportunity for students to exhibit their entrepreneurial skills. The Coordinator of the symposium, R.S. Kumar, said that 705 technical papers were presented by students from 138 colleges, of which 154 were listed and discussed. Prizes were also distributed to 42 students. The Principal of the college, A. Shanmugam, proposed a vote of thanks.
