KOLAR, SEPT. 4. Farmers of Holur hobli near here staged a rasto roko near Mallasandra village on Thursday against erratic power supply in the hobli. Shivananda, brother of the Agriculture Minister, K. Srinivasa Gowda, and D. Sundarraj, President of the Kolar Taluk Panchayat, led the farmers. The farmers said though Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and the State Government had been claiming that adequate power supply would be maintained, most of the villages, including Kudavanahalli from where Mr. Srinivasa Gowda hailed, faced power shortage. They could not pump water to their fields for want of electricity, the farmers said. They said they were forced to stage a rasta roko when their pleas were ignored by the BESCOM authorities. Traffic on the inter-State road was disrupted for two hours. Officials from BESCOM, who arrived at the spot, said some technical problems hindered proper power supply in the villages. The officials promised the farmers that adequate power supply would be maintained once the problems were solved.
