TIRUPATI. Sept. 4. Some 200 Correspondents, Principals and lecturers belonging to various private unaided B.Ed colleges participated in the day-long orientation programme conducted by the Bangalore-based Southern Regional Committee of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The participants were from colleges in Chittoor, Cuddapah, Nellore, Anantapur and Kurnool districts which come under the jurisdiction of the S.V. University, Tirupati and the Sri Krishadevaraya University, Anantapur. The programme was inaugurated by the S.V. University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P. Murali, with Prof. P. Venkatramaiah, Chairman of the SRC-NCTE, Bangalore, in the chair. According to B. Thimmaiah, Secretary of the Association of Private Unaided colleges of Education, Andhra Pradesh, the training became imperative because of the sprouting of 200 private B.Ed colleges in the State during 2003-04 alone. Inaugurating the programme, the Vice-Chancellor backed the proposal put forth by the Association asking the State Government to permit private B.Ed colleges to get qualified teachers on deputation to ensure quality teaching.
