DAVANGERE, SEPT. 4. Councillors of the Harihar City Municipal Council questioned the municipal commissioner, T. Jayanna, about the alleged corruption in the civic body and non-implementation of decisions taken by the civic body in previous meetings.
Seize
Senior councillors prevented a few of their colleagues from laying siege to the offices of the commissioner and the engineering department of the municipality. When the meeting began on Saturday, Shankar Katavkar, Revannasiddappa, S. Ramappa, Raghunath, Akhila Begum, and Syed Kalil, questioned the municipal commissioner about the working of the municipality and the works undertaken. They alleged that the commissioner took the decisions of the civic body "very lightly."
Works
The councillors also sought to know how many works had been taken up and completed with the 18 per cent grant. The commissioner produced a few files that contained details of the works undertaken and completed. Mr. Katavkar, who examined the files, said that no work approved by the civic body had been taken up. The councillors said that the municipality had failed to clear the garbage in the town. They asked the commissioner about the steps taken to prevent pigs from straying about in the town. They later spoke to the Deputy Commissioner and he reportedly assured them that he would visit the municipality on Monday and look into the issue.
