TUTICORIN, SEPT.4. Tiruchendur is all set to get improved infrastructure facilities, including a state-of-the-art bus terminus at a cost of Rs.3 crores, with financial assistance from the Tamil Nadu Urban Finance Infrastructure Development Corporation, which has come forward to finance for the implementation of various developmental schemes in the district to the tune of Rs.11.05 crores. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held at Tiruchendur today, in which the Minister for Housing and Rural Development, Anita R. Radhakrishnan, the Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, the Managing Director of TUFIDCO, Murugan, the Commissioner of Town Planning, P. Anand, and representatives of the local bodies participated. The officials and the Minister visited the Tiruchendur bus-stand to assess the condition and the facilities. Addressing the meeting held after the spot visit, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the TUFIDCO had expressed its willingness to finance Rs.11.05 crores in various infrastructure development works. Of which, Tiruchendur would get Rs.7.55 crores while Tuticorin would get Rs. 3.50 crores. In Tiruchendur, all Car Streets through which the cars of Lord Subramaniya Swamy are drawn would be given a facelift at a cost of Rs.20 lakhs and an ultra-modern market with all facilities established on an outlay of Rs.1.67 crores. "The age-old bus-stand will be redesigned in the model of the new bus-stand at Vaeinthankulam in Tirunelveli with all commuter friendly facilities," Mr. Radhakrishnan said. The roads at Arumuganeri, Udangudi, Kayalpattinam and Kayathaar would be improved on an outlay of Rs.1.03 crores and public toilets constructed at Arumuganeri and Kayathaar at a cost of Rs.15 lakhs. Two community halls would be constructed at Udangudi and Kaayalpattinam at a cost of Rs.1 crore for the benefit of the public. In Tuticorin, an electric crematorium would be set up in the burial ground opposite the VOC College at a cost of Rs. 90 lakhs and power generators worth Rs. 50 lakhs purchased to ensure pumping of water even during power cuts. The roads in Tuticorin, which are worst, would be improved on an outlay of Rs. 91 lakhs and a commercial complex constructed on the Tuticorin-Palayamkottai road at a cost of Rs. 18 lakhs, besides an aquarium that would be established at the Rajaji Park on an outlay of Rs. 15 lakhs.
