Three teams share lead

CHENNAI, SEPT. 4. Three teams — Jawahar Vidyalaya (Neyveli), SBOA (Chennai) and Modern School (Nagpur) are in joint lead at the end of the second round with 8 points each in the under-14 category of the CBSE South Zone chess tournament at Modern School here on Saturday. In the under-19 section, Jawahar Vidyalaya (Neyveli) leads the table with 8 points.

Important results (second round):

Under-14: Choice School (Tripunithura) 4 lost to SBOA (Chennai) 8; Modern School (Chennai) 5 lost to DAV Public (Mumbai) 7; CREM (Bhusawal) 4 lost to Jawahar Vidyalaya (Neyveli) 8.

Chettinad (Chennai) 4 lost to Modern School (Nagpur) 8; Sri Venkateswara (Tirupati) 4 lost to BVB Public (Hyderabad) 7.5.

Maharishi (Hosur) 5.5 drew with DAV (Ranipet) 5.5; Vidya Mandir (Kaddapa) 6.5 bt Bhavan's Hyderabad 3.5; Bhavan's (Nagpur) 6 bt Vels V Ashram (Chennai) 2.

Jnanadeep (Karnataka) 3 lost to Chinmaya (Cannanore) 5; Gomathy School (Nellore) 3 lost to St. Xavier's (Nagpur) 5.

Under-19: PSBB (K.K. Nagar, Chennai) 6 drew with Modern SSS (Chennai) 6; Jawahar Vidyalaya (Chennai) 8 bt Bhavan's (Nagpur) 4; Chettinad (Chennai) 5.5 lost to Bhaktavatsalam (Chennai) 6.5; CREM (Bhusaval) 4 lost to Sree Vidyaniketan International School (Rangampet) 7; Bhavan's Secunderabad 4.5 lost to Bhavan's (Hyderabad) 5; Jawahar Vidyalaya (Chennai) 3.5 drew with B.K. Birla (Shirgaon) 4; Modern School (Nagpur) bt Maharishi (Chennai) 2; Chinmaya (Cannanore) 2 lost to Choice School (Tripunithura) 3.
