State committed to reservations in private sector: Minister

By Our Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA, SEPT. 4. The State Government is committed to implementing reservations in private institutions also, according to the Minister for Labour and Employment, G. Vinod.

Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, Mr. Vinod said the Union Government had constituted a committee to look into the issue and once the report was submitted and the Union Government brought it into force, the State Government would ensure its effective implementation.

Job melas

The State Government was conducting job melas in private companies for selection and recruitment of people into private companies with a view to encouraging meritorious candidates. The companies, recruiting on the basis of reservations, would impart professional training to those selected to make the best use of their services. The Congress Government, after coming to power, ensured that 1,616 persons were recruited by companies and 409 of them were selected through job melas.

To a query on the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act, he said the survival of the companies should also be taken into account. If employees became a burden to any company, its very existence would come under cloud. However, efforts were being made to ensure effective implementation, said the minister.

Referring to the child labour problem, Mr. Vinod said it was reaching alarming proportions in Telangana, as there were no employment avenues. Steps were afoot to create employment and also ensure the admission of children into schools.

Habsiguda stadium

Works on the cricket stadium at Habsiguda in Hyderabad in an area of 23.27 acres were going on at a brisk pace. The Minister said that Mumbai XI and Australia XI would play a match for three days beginning on September 30.
