Rousing reception to Chandy

KOTTAYAM, SEPT. 4 . Oommen Chandy, who arrived on a whirlwind tour of his home district after taking over as the Chief Minister, was given a rousing reception by hundreds of party workers and well-wishers, here today. Mr. Chandy addressed a meeting of party leaders and elected Congress members of the local bodies in the evening.

Inaugurates boat race

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Thazhathangadi Boat Race. Speaking on the occasion, he declared a financial assistance of Rs.50,000 for the conduct of the century-old boat race.

Mr. Chandy also inaugurated the public meeting organised in connection with the `Ettu Nombu Perunal' at the St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Church at Manarcadu.
