TIRUCHI, SEPT.4. The feasibility of converting a new alternative road between Srirangam and Tiruvannaikovil as a two-way route for city buses was explored on Friday. Buses were operated as a trial basis through Burma Colony. The decision was taken on Thursday at a meeting in which the Road Transport Officer, police officials, representatives of the Communist Party of India, officials of the State Transport Corporation and representatives of private transport operators participated. The meeting was arranged since residents demanded to-and-fro bus service between Srirangam and Tiruvannaikovil. The narrow space at the tri-junction on the main road between Srirangam and Tiruvannaikovil through the overbridge causes traffic jam. So, the traffic police expressed reservations over using the road. A unanimous decision to operate buses between the two places through Burma Colony was reached. The final decision on the two-way route will be taken only after assessing the utility of the new route.
