MANGALORE, SEPT. 5. The District health office today said that 11 out of 38 blood samples taken for suspected leptospirosis (rat fever) had reported positive. In a press release, department clarified that the four deaths recently reported in a section of the press as deaths from Leptospirosis was not accurate and that Janaki of Sullia, Krishna of Belthangady, P.C Meenakshi of Guthigaru and Vasanthi of Ajjavara died of some other diseases and not from Leptospirosis as reported. Their blood samples had posted negative results for leptospirosis, the release added. However, the deaths of Shaila of Yeyyadi Mangalore and one Kukka of Panaje have been confirmed to have died due to leptospirosis, the release added.
