This Day That Age
Communist China's bombers flew over Taipeh (Formosa) on September 6 - for the first time since the Nationalist Government moved there from the mainland. The official report of the incident said only an unknown number of planes flew over the outskirts of Taipeh. One unofficial report said that there were eight propeller-driven bombers over Taipeh. The Nationalist China anti-aircraft guns roared continuously for almost two hours early on September 6 and there was a black-out lasting three and a half hours. But, no invading planes were visible. The American Military Mission in Taipeh and the Chinese Nationalist Air Force called separate emergency conferences following the incident.
