BELGAUM, SEPT. 6. Activists of the National Federation of Indian Women will stage a protest in protest against the ``Keshavapan'' ceremony (tonsuring the head of a widowed woman) allegedly performed in a Brahmin family in Chennammanagar here on Tuesday. The president of the federation's district unit, Parimala Vijay Kumar, who submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police seeking the latter's intervention in the matter, said the activists of the federation would stage a dharna in front of the venue where the ritual was being organised and would try to convince the family members of the bereaved widow against committing what was now seen as an offence. It was said a purohit had instigated the family to organise the ritual. Ms. Parimala Vijay Kumar also called upon the progressive-thinking people and organisations and individuals fighting against the exploitation of women to prevent the ceremony.
