Uzbekistan withdraws

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 6. Uzbekistan has effectively pulled out of the Asian junior handball championship, to be held at Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium from September 8 to 17, according to the president of Handball Federation of India and secretary general of the Asian Handball Federation, R.L. Anand.

Mr. Anand informed the media that despite repeated reminders to confirm its entry for the Asian championship, there had been no reply from the Uzbekistan Federation officials.

The team scheduled to play Uzbekistan will get a bye for the next round if they do not turn up on that given day, he explained.

The championship assumes significance as the top two teams from here qualify for the next year's World Championship to be held in Hungary.
