BANGALORE, SEPT. 6. Dr. G. Parameshwarappa, the new President of the Karnataka Athletic Association, has outlined his intentions of strengthening the sport especially at the district level. "The focus will be on coaching camps conducted by the district associations," he said. Meeting the press after assuming office, Dr. Parameshwarappa stated the State government would be asked to provide synthetic tracks at Mysore and Belgaum. A four-year sports programme for talent scouting, special coaching for promising athletes and scholarships would also be worked out. The Karnataka State junior athletics championship would be held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium from September 7-9. Promising athletes would be chosen to participate in the championship at Warangal on September 17 and 18 and from there go for selection trials at Lucknow on October 18 and 19. The Lucknow meet will select the Indian squad for the junior Commonwealth meet at Canberra in Australia from November 4 to 9.
