Special postal cancellation with Gandhi's signature

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, SEPT. 6. To mark the 150th anniversary of post offices, India Post is releasing a special postal cancellation on October 2 at Port Blair, showing Mahatma Gandhi's signature.

India Post, Andaman and Nicobar, is also releasing a special cover showing the Cellular Jail and the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Aberdeen Chowk, Port Blair. The cover carries the lines of a telegram sent by Mahatma Gandhi in 1937 to the prisoners of the Cellular Jail, who were on a hunger strike.

Each special cover with the special cancellation is priced at Rs. 10. The cover can be obtained by sending a crossed postal order of Rs. 10 in the name of the Postmaster, Port Blair HO. The special cancellation with Mahatma Gandhi's signature will also be available on other envelopes and letters bearing Gandhi stamps. Those who want this rare postal cancellation on their own envelopes and cards should send them to the Postmaster, Port Blair HO, before September 30.
