Jaitley justifies Sinha's remarks

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 6. The Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary, Arun Jaitley, today justified the remarks made by the former External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, against the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, on the plea that there would not be "double standards" on this.

He pointed out that the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, had used derogatory words against the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, L.K. Advani. He had also used contemptuous words agaisnt the Samajwadi Party leader, Amar Singh. Mr. Jaitley also cited remarks made against some senior BJP leaders by the Water Resources Minister, Priyaranjan Das Munshi.

"I believe that the language of politics must be appropriate, but I would like to remind friends in the Congress that there should be no double standards." Asked to explain the meaning of the Hindi word used by Mr. Sinha to describe the Prime Minister, Mr. Jaitley preferred not to elaborate.
