Windfall for AIFF

KOLKATA, SEPT. 6. The 2006 World Cup football qualifier against Japan here may not fetch a favourable result for India, but the match will definitely revive the sagging fortunes of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

With the AIFF's financial state not sound, the India-Japan contest couldn't have happened at a better time and promises to fill the national body's coffers.

Though the amount was not officially disclosed, the AIFF is likely to earn around Rs. 4 crores from the telecast rights of the match, which has generated immense interest in Japan, as its national team plays to qualify for its second successive World Cup final. — Our Sports Reporter
