HYDERABAD, SEPT. 6. Rain on three consecutive days since Saturday has brought relief to Transco as the load on its system has suddenly eased. The peak consumption of 162 million units on September 2, the highest-ever recorded in the history of the power sector in the State, came down to 137 mu on Monday. Normally, power consumption during this time of the year is 130 mu but the increasing number of pump sets and rising demand in other sectors has pushed up the figure. An official spokesman of APTransco pointed out that rains could not have been more timely since there was no way the system could have sustained a load of above 160 mu over a long period. He held that the additional consumption was largely on account of illegal power connections taken by farmers during the last few months since the Government announced its free power policy.
Hydel generation
What has particularly pleased the officials in the power sector is the fact that hydel generation accounted for 34 mu today against 10 mu on this day last year.
