JAIPUR, SEPT. 6 .The Rajasthan Government has imposed a cess of 50 paise per litre on petrol and high speed diesel. The new cess, announced today after a meeting of the State Cabinet, presided over by the Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, is to garner resources for the proposed Rajasthan State Road Fund, setting up of which was announced in the current year's Budget. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Rajendra Rathore, who briefed newspersons on the decisions of the Cabinet meeting, said revenue of Rs.180 crores was expected from the cess. Of this, Rs.158 crores would be from the cess on high speed diesel, he informed. The Rajasthan State Road Fund is purportedly for the upgradation and upkeep of the existing roads and construction of new ones under the State programmes.
