Jobs on merit, says Chautala

By Our Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH, SEPT.6. The Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, today stated that government jobs were being given on the basis of merit in stark contrast to the "auctioning'' method adopted by the previous governments.

Mr. Chautala was addressing people from various villages of Sirsa district during his tour of the rural areas. He gathered information from the villagers regarding power supply, drinking and irrigation water availability besides a number of development works which had been implemented by the State Government in their villages.

He claimed that after four months the State would not face any power shortage. Haryana would not only become self-sufficient in power supply, but also be in a position to supply power to the neighbouring States. The theft of power, he said, would be stopped under all circumstances for which steps were being taken.

He reiterated that water courses would be concretised and those which had been broken would be repaired. Besides this, those villages which contributed Rs. 25,000 each would be provided with Anganwari centres. The government would provide the remaining amount of Rs. 2.8 lakhs for this purpose.

Mr. Chautala later disclosed that the Haryana Power Utilities would construct 78 additional sub-stations and augment the capacity of 70 existing sub-stations to strengthen the power transmission and distribution system in the State. He was addressing a public meeting at Ram Nagaria village in Sirsa after inaugurating a 132 KV sub-station and a 33KV substation at Rasulpur Their village, constructed by the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN).

Besides increasing the installed capacity of power generation in the State, the government was also giving due priority to strengthening power transmission and distribution system. During the last five years, the Power Utilities had set up 99 new sub-stations and augmented the capacity of 293 existing sub-stations at a cost of Rs. 655 crores. In addition, 354 feeders of 11 KV level, which were lengthier and overloaded, had been divided into 821 feeders of shorter length and proper load. During the rehabilitation of these feeders, the complete system had been renovated and additional power distribution transformers were installed as per requirement.
