This one was not sneered at

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, SEPT. 6. It is very often that one contorts his face on seeing his or her face and the person caricatured. It is no wonder cartoonists have few friends among the country's politicians, the most lampooned and laughed at among those in the public life of the country.

However, it was with glee that the Karnataka Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, received a cartoon of his drawn by B.G. Gujjarappa, a freelancer, at the Press Club of Bangalore here today.

The occasion was the completion of 100 days in office by the Dharam Singh-led coalition Government on Sunday. The Chief Minister participated in a meet-the-press programme organised by the club.

The cartoon was presented to Mr. Dharam Singh by the president of the club, A. Jayaram, and its general secretary, Sadashiva Shenoy.

Karnataka has an association of cartoonists with about 200 members, most of whom are freelancers. It has been a tradition with the Press Club of Bangalore to present the chief ministers with their cartoons.

In appreciation of Mr. Gujjarappa's drawing, Mr. Dharam Singh autographed a copy of the same.
