HUBLI, SEPT. 7. Goa has been cut off from the hinterland since yesterday following a landslip between Caranzolem and Dudhsagar on the Londa-Castlerock-Vascodagama section of the Hubli Division of South-Western Railway. Caranzolem is the first station on the 20-km-long Braganza ghat section and the ghat has more than a dozen tunnels, through which the line passes towards Collem station in Goa. The landslip occurred following heavy rain in the early hours of Monday, an hour before the Yeshwantpur-Vascodagama Express was to pass through. The Hazrat Nizamuddin-Vasco Express was scheduled to pass through two hours later. The Deputy General Manager of South-Western Railway, S.K. Jain, said there was no road link to the site and relief workers had to walk about 10 km to reach it. Around 300 workers were on the job and it might take a couple of days to restore traffic. A team of officials led by the Chief Engineer, Sriram, the Additional Divisional Manager, A.V. Sivaprasad, was supervising the restoration work.
The running of the Yeshwantpur-Vascodagama-Yeshwantpur Express and the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Vascodagama-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express has been cancelled between Londa and Vascodagama and passengers are being sent by bus to Belgaum, Londa and Madgaon. The running of the Vijayawada-Vascodagama Amaravati Express train has been regulated with the passengers being sent by bus. The 1098 Ernakulam-Pune Express, which left Ernakulam on September 6, has been diverted to run on the Madgaon-Roha route of the Konkan Railway instead of Londa and Miraj.
