This Day That Age
The President has accepted the resignation of Mr. V.V. Giri, Labour Minister. A press communiqué issued by the office of the Secretary to the President says: "The President has, under Clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution of India, accepted with regret the resignation of Mr. V.V. Giri of his office as Minister." Mr. Giri submitted his resignation on August 30 soon after the conclusion of the debate in the Lok Sabha on the Government's modification of the bank award. His resignation followed differences with his colleagues on matters concerning labour policy over the last two and a half years. This is the first resignation from the Nehru Cabinet formed after the general elections in 1952.
