Isolated rain likely in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI, SEPT. 7 . Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Rayalaseema and active over coastal Andhra Pradesh and north interior Karnataka.

Rainfall occurred at many places over coastal and north interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema and at a few places over Kerala, Telangana and south interior Karnataka. Isolated rainfall occurred over Tamil Nadu and mainly dry weather prevailed over Lakshadweep.

The following stations recorded a heavy rainfall in cms.: Chittar I (Kanyakumari dt.) 9, Thiruvananthapuram 8 and Tirupathi Airport 7.

The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cms. are: Rajampet (Cuddapah dt.) 6, Pechiparai (Kanyakumari dt.) and Thiruvananthapuram Airport 5 each. Sullurpet (Nellore dt.) and Rayachoty (Cuddapah dt.) 4 each. Perunchani (Kanyakumari dt.), Gadag, Jamakhandi (Bagalkote dt.), Soundathi (Belgaum dt.), Bapatla, Tada (Nellore dt.) and Repalle (Guntur dt.) 3 each, Aluva (Ernakulam dt.), CIAL Kochi, Karkala and Kundapura (both Udupi dt.), Nellore, Nandyal, Gudur and Rapur (both Nellore dt.) and Vempalle (Cuddapah dt.) 2 each and Coonoor, Attur (Salem dt.), Senkottai (Tirunelveli dt.), Chittar II, Surulacode, Periyar Dam (Theni dt.), Punalur, Sirsi (Uttara Kannada dt.), Krishnarajasagar (Mandya dt.), Kalingapatnam, Arogyavaram, Pargi (Rangareddy dt.), Veeraghattam (Srikakulam dt.) Godavari dt.) 1 each.

FORECAST (valid until Thursday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Andhra Pradesh and coastal Karnataka at a few places over interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
