TIRUPATI, SEPT. 7. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's Gardens Department has appealed for flower donations from philanthropists in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. They could donate liberally in the form of loose or tied flowers for use in the temple of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala during the annual Brahmothsavams scheduled to get under way from September 16 and conclude on September 24.
Wide variety
According to P.T. Srinivas, the TTD's Gardens Superintendent, the donors could send flowers from September 15 onwards to the Gardens Department, Tirumala. The flowers utilised for the occasion are rose, chamanthi, scented geranium, ganneru, nandi vardhanam, lotus, moravum, dhavanam, lily, jaji, malli, kanakambaram, molalu, kuriveru, vettiveru, vadamalli, aster, marigold, mogili, vrikshi and thulasi. Similarly, the cut flowers that are utilised for the festivities are roses, chrysanthemum, gerbera, carnations, limonias, aster, anthuriums, liliums, gladioli, vettiveru, tube-rose, orchids, golden-rod, Bird of Paradise, heliconias, asparagus, etc. The donors could send coconut flowers, arecanut flowers and bunches (vocca). The department also invites philanthropists to come forward to donate and decorate the four Mada streets around the temple through which the deities of the Lord together with His consorts would be carried in procession daily morning and evening during the nine-day festival.
Free transport
Mr Srinivas said that the APSRTC and the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka State Transport Corporation buses bound for Tirupati and Tirumala have agreed to transport the flowers donated by donors to the temple during the festival period free of cost.
