HYDERABAD, SEPT. 7. The Registration and Stamps Department will soon have a permanent building complex in the heart of the city at the Moazam Jahi Market if the proposal to put up a four or five-storeyed building submitted by the Inspector-General is cleared by the State Government. The building is likely to cost over Rs.30 crores. A top official of the department told The Hindu on Tuesday that construction of the building would not be a problem as the required land was available in the M. J. Market area. "Money should not be a problem. All that is required is Government clearance for the proposal. Once that comes work can be started," he said, adding that similar complexes were also planned in the districts. These office complexes are expected to be constructed in a phased manner on Government land available in the districts.
Permanent premises
The official stated that the idea behind the proposal now pending with the Government was that the department wanted to have its own permanent premises, as it a revenue-generating wing of the State Government. "We can feel at home in our own premises. Besides we can save on rent." The department, he said, was paying Rs.1.5 lakh as monthly rent for its office in the former NTR Studio Complex located at Mushirabad for several years now.
Land record data bank
He said the department also plans to build a data bank of land records available throughout the State. The idea in having such a facility is to enable the Mandal Revenue Officers to make use of it so as to discharge their duties more efficiently and more effectively. Such records, he emphasised, not only would enable the MRO to have clarity of thought on various issues, such as ownership of land, which could come in handy for them to settle disputes arising out of bogus claims, allegedly made by land sharks and grabbers, and also court cases. They could pave the way for registration of property from anywhere in the State.
