SRIKAKULAM, SEPT. 7. Endorsing the steps taken by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to tackle the naxal issue and free power supply to farmers, the AICC general secretary in charge of the State affairs, Digvijay Singh, on Tuesday said there was no place for violence in a political democracy. He urged naxalites to join the mainstream of society and be a part of development process. Addressing the DCC meeting here, Mr. Singh recalled how the Congress had tackled the problem of Nagas and Sikhs. It was the Congress which had suffered the most because of extremists and terrorists, Mr. Singh said and recalled the tragic end of the former Prime Ministers, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
Infighting
Mr. Singh observed that the party had lost elections in 1994 and 1999 not because of the TDP, but due to infighting. He said that indiscipline would not be tolerated at any level and saboteurs in the last election would be punished. He also cautioned party Ministers, MPs and MLAs against those partymen who try to mislead them. The DCC president, Palavalasa Rajasekhar, who presided, recalled the hardship to which party workers were subjected to and congratulated them on their relentless fight against the TDP misrule. The Minister for Revenue, Dharmana Prasada Rao, criticised the TDP's stand with regard to power supply. He urged party workers to explain to people the `nefarious designs' of the TDP. Earlier, Mr. Digvijay Singh, who spoke to presspersons, decried the remarks of the BJP leader, Yashwant Sinha, against the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh.
Telangana issue
On Telangana, Mr. Singh said that there was no ambiguity or two versions on the issue and the decision of the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, would be final.
