The TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, presiding over the party's Polit Bureau meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
HYDERABAD, SEPT. 7. Piqued by what it termed the "criminal neglect" of the Congress Government in containing the killings of its cadre in the State, the Telugu Desam Party has decided to seek the intervention of Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, and also approach the National Human Rights Commission in this regard.
`Not the right message'
Briefing reporters after a Polit Bureau meeting of the party, specifically called to discuss the "political killings", TDP leaders, P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, C. Ramachandraiah, N. Janardhana Reddy and S. Venugopalachary, condemned the statement of the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on the Anantapur murders. "It does not seem that he is sending the right message," they observed. The TDP leaders sought an appointment with the Governor tomorrow. They accused the Chief Minister of making a factually wrong statement by saying that there was a history behind the killings. They wondered whether the Chief Minister was sending out a "message" that the administration would remain "quiet" and one could settle old scores. "What does he mean by history?" they asked. They added that the Chief Minister's statement did not demonstrate "responsibility of any kind." Alleging complete "inaction" on the part of the State Government in curbing faction violence, they said no review had ever taken place on them.
Pachmarhi spirit
The TDP would also send letters to the leaders of all political parties, including the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi. " We will also remind her of the Pachmarhi resolution and the history of the Chief Minister. We welcomed the resolution as it spoke of not allowing any criminal to use the so-called fair name of the Congress," they said.
