Currency racket smashed

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 7 Three young men allegedly engaged in printing and circulation of counterfeit currency notes across the Capital for the past several months were arrested by officers of the Crime Branch of the Delhi police at Rohini here over the week-end. The police claim to have recovered a scanner, a computer, a printer and fake currency notes worth Rs. 1.3 lakhs from them.

According to the police, they received a tip-off that some people were printing fake currency notes of Rs. 100 denomination in a house at Avantika in Rohini. Further probe revealed that the culprits were actually scanning the original currency notes using a computer. The police sent a decoy to strike a deal with one of the suspects, later identified as Sunil. The suspect agreed to supply currency notes of 100 denomination near Rameshwar Sweets at Prashant Vihar. Accordingly, a trap was laid and two of the suspects, Sunil and Pradeep, while they were handing over currency notes worth Rs. 1,500 to the decoy. At their instance, the police raided a house at Avantika and arrested the gang head, Kamal Kishore. From there, they recovered currency notes worth Rs. 1.3 lakhs, 85 unfinished notes, the computer, scanner and the printer. During interrogation, Kamal disclosed that he did his graduation from Delhi University and was presently giving tuitions to Class X and Class XII students.
