CUDDAPAH, SEPT. 7. The Vempalle police on Tuesday arrested a trickster involved in several cases of theft in Cuddapah, Chittoor, Madanapalle and Bellary and recovered 92 g. of gold ornaments worth of Rs. 52,500 from him, according to the Vempalle Sub-Inspector, K.S. Vinod Kumar. Boyapaka Subbarayudu, belonging to Janasakthinagar in Anantapur town, used to pose as a rice dealer and cheat gullible women. He was arrested near Bhoomananda ashram at Gandi, the SI told newspersons. Explaining the modus operandi, the SI said Subbarayudu, claiming to be a rice dealer, visited houses when women were alone, convinced them that their husband had purchased rice, which he would hand over to them and take them along with him. Asking the victim to stop midway on one pretext or the other, the accused would return to her house and ask the children to give their mother's moneybag. He recently stole 50 g. of gold from the house of a Rayachoti court employee, Venkataramana, the SI stated. Some gold ornaments were also seized from his house in Anantapur town.
