Nellore
By Our Staff Reporter
NELLORE, SEPT.7. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has assured legislators of Nellore district, that all relevant steps will be taken for over all development of the district.
Water problem
The legislators -- Anam Vivekananda Reddy, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, P. Srinivasulu Reddy, A. Prabhakara Reddy, M. Parvathamma and N. Subramanyam -- met the Chief Minister at Hyderabad on Tuesday and expressed concern over the acute drinking water shortage faced by all the 46 mandals of the district. They pointed that Nellore municipality had miserably failed to meet the needs of the town, with only 90 lakh gallons of water being made available as against the minimum requirement of 1.20 crore gallons per day. They accordingly pleaded for the conversion of the Nellore tank into a summer storage tank, at an estimated cost of Rs. 35 crores and also requested the Chief Minister, that the existing pipelines in town should be strengthened. Mr. Vivekananda Reddy pleaded that the 110-year-old Nellore municipality should be upgraded into a corporation, as it had already fulfilled the required norms.
