Soren fails to give passport number, not released
JAMTARA (JHARKHAND),
SEPT. 7.
Though a Dumka court today granted bail to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader, Shibu Soren, in a case relating to election violence in 2004, he could not be released as he was unable to give his passport number to a Giridih court as demanded.
At Dumka, Mr. Soren was produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate, Janardan Singh, who after hearing the petition, granted bail on a personal bond of Rs. 5,000.
The Giridih court demanded Mr. Soren's passport number, which he was unable to give. His passport is in CBI custody. He is to be produced again in Giridih on September 9, according to the Superintendent of the camp jail here, A. Sinha.
Mr. Soren is an accused in the Chirrudih massacre case of 1975 and Pirtand murder case of 1974. The Chirrudih murder case is being tried in Jamtara and the Pirtand murder case in Giridih.
Tomorrow, Mr. Soren would be produced in a Godda court in connection with another case relating to alleged beating up of a Block Development Officer.
On September 13, he is to be produced in the Tis Hazari Court, Delhi, in connection with a murder case. The Jharkhand High Court granted bail to Mr. Soren on September 3. — PTI
