STF harassing me: Veerappan's sister

By S. Prasad

DHARMAPURI, SEPT. 7. Muniammal, sister of the forest brigand, Veerappan, has accused the Special Task Force (STF), hunting for him in the forests of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, of harassment and inhuman treatment.

Talking to The Hindu Mrs. Muniammal, wife of Ponnusamy of Kurukalayanur near Nerupur in Dharmapuri district, claimed that she and her son Murugesan (25), a school dropout, were frequently taken for interrogation by the STF personnel, camping at Mettur and Hogenakkal, on the whereabouts of Veerapan and were subjected to torture. She said she had become a psychological wreck.

``My son has left the house and I do not know his whereabouts,'' she says. Mrs. Muniammal came to Dharmapuri today to meet the Collector, Ashish Vachhani, but as he was away she met the Superintendent of Police, S. Rajendiran, and submitted a petition.
