CHANDIGARH, SEPT.7. The Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, today directed the district administration to extend up to October 20 the campaign to identify genuine beneficiaries of the old age pension scheme so that no eligible person was deprived of the benefits of the scheme. Presiding over a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police here today, Mr.Chautala said that while identifying genuine beneficiaries, the names of the defaulters or those who had passed away should be deleted. While describing the Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendents of Police as his "eyes and ears'', he urged them to maintain coordination for effective administration and to accelerate the pace of development in their respective areas. He directed the Deputy Commissioners to implement the announcements made by him on priority basis to further accelerate the pace of development and complete the projects within a stipulated period. And the two schemes announced by him as a gift to the women on `Raksha Bandhan' should be implemented on priority basis. These schemes included construction of community sanitary latrines in rural areas and making drinking water available within the periphery so that no woman might have to go outside the periphery of the village to fetch water. Mr.Chautala directed that adequate water and power should be provided in the Fatehabad and Sirsa districts and parts of Hisar as drought-like conditions prevailed there. Also, police patrolling should be conducted along canals to check theft of water. He also directed that the innovative `Niyojit Gram Yojna Scheme' would be implemented in all the 116 blocks to develop residential sectors in villages to provide basic amenities at par with urban areas to the people living in rural areas. He said that priority should be given to those villages which were either over-populated or lacked proper sanitation. He directed that encroachments should be removed from public land. In case somebody had constructed a house by encroaching upon land and it was not creating any hindrance to the public, the Deputy Commissioners might regularise such encroachments by seeking charges from the defaulter in the presence of members of the panchayat or the municipality. He directed that the scheme of shifting of dairies to the outskirts of municipalities be expedited. It was informed that 16 dairies had been shifted in Rohtak. Meanwhile, Haryana expects a production of 40 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the current year and out of it 30 lakh metric tonnes would arrive in the mandis for procurement. Mr.Chautala directed that all basic amenities should be provided in the mandis. There should neither be any distress sale nor any glut be allowed to take place. While reviewing the law and order situation, he expressed satisfaction over the prevailing situation. When the Director General of Police, M.S.Malik, informed that two hardcore criminals had been killed by the police in encounters recently, Mr.Chautala said that the brave police personnel should be suitably rewarded. The Chief Secretary, Sunil Ahuja, the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, B.D.Dhalia, and other senior civil and police officers were present in the meeting.
