Temperature

MADURAI, SEPT. 7. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 35 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25 degree Celsius.

Water level

The level in Periyar dam stood at 116.7 feet, with an inflow of 354 cusecs and a discharge of 975 cusecs.

The level in Vaigai dam was 41.34 feet, with an inflow of 482 cusecs and a discharge of 930 cusecs. The combined Periyar storage was 3,011 mcft.

Periyar dam received a maximum rainfall of 8 mm, followed by Gudalur and Tekkadi — 6 mm each, Shanmuganadi — 3 mm and Kuppanampatti — 2 mm.

Chain snatched

Two persons snatched a gold chain from a woman at LIG Colony on Monday.

The police said R. P. Padmavathy of K.K. Nagar was returning home, along with her husband, R.V. Padmanabhan, after attending a marriage, when the motorcycle-borne culprits snatched her three-sovereign chain. One of them fired two rounds in the air with a country weapon to scare away the passers-by.

Mrs. Padmavathy sustained minor injuries on the neck.

A couple of pellets were found at the scene.

A special team has been formed to nab them.

Awareness camp

A legal awareness camp was organised by the Madurai District Legal Aid Cell and the Koodal Nagar Consumer Protection Movement for the residents of Siruvalai near here on Saturday.

Around 140 representations were received at the camp, in which W. Sadasivam, Principal Sub-Judge, Mary and Lakshmi, Additional Sub-Judges, spoke about legal awareness programmes.

Teachers' Day

Prizes were distributed to outstanding teachers by Dhanvantri Premvel, zone chairman, at the Teachers' Day celebration organised by the Lions Club of Madurai Malligai, at the St. Justin's College of Education on Friday. Prof. G. Gnanasambandan spoke.
