Officials told to shift school

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, SEPT. 7. The Binnypet MLA, V. Somanna, on Tuesday directed the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) officials to shift by October 15 a private school constructed on forest land in Govindarajnagar.

During his inspection of Govindarajnagar, which comes under the Binnypet Assembly constituency, Mr. Somanna reportedly found that the school, Maitri Vidyapeeta, situated on 1st Main Road, Sampige Extension, had been constructed on forest land. Though the school authorities had been told several times to vacate the premises, they had failed to do so. The MLA set a deadline of October 15 for the school to be shifted from the forest land.

He wanted elected representatives to play the lead role in protecting Government properties which have been encroached upon by land grabbers. Mr. Somanna went through Govindarajanagar along with the area corporator, G. Krishnappa, and senior officials of the BMP, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), and inspected the development works in the ward.

Problem solved

Thanks to the MLA's intervention, a 10-year-old problem of flooding in 6th Cross, Prashanthanagar, where a multi-storeyed building named Paradise Apartments is situated, was solved on Tuesday.

The basement of the building gets flooded during rain as it is located at a lower level. Mr. Somanna asked the owner of a house adjacent to the apartment complex to hand over a three-foot strip of land from his site, which was bought as margin land from the BDA, to construct a diverting drain for rainwater. He also promised the owner compensation from his personal fund. After much persuasion, the owner agreed to the proposal and the MLA asked the engineers to start work immediately.

Certificates

The MLA assured the residents of six slums in Govindarajnagar that possession certificates would soon be given to them. Over 4,000 families are living in houses built by the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board.

Link road

Mr. Somanna directed BESCOM officials to hand over the strip of land that falls under the high-tension line in Thimmenahalli to form a link road.
