This Day That Age
From September 10 the Lok Sabha will sit without a break from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. instead of from 8-15 a.m. to 1-15 p.m. as at present. Announcing this, the Speaker, Mr. G.V. Mavlankar, said that, if need be, the House could sit till 6 p.m. He commended to the members the House of Commons convention whereby no count is taken for quorum (50 members in the Lok Sabha) during the lunch hour - 1 p.m. to 2-30 p.m. - but if, on a division taken on any business between 1 p.m. and 2-30 p.m., it appears that 50 members are not present, that business would stand over until the next sitting and the House would proceed to the next business.
