Sai Jayalakshmy advances
TASHKENT,
SEPT. 8.
Sai Jayalakshmy defeated Wei-Ping Lee of Singapore 6-4, 6-4 to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the women's section in the $100,000 Asian tennis championship here on Wednesday.
Sai will meet the third-seeded Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei in the next round. Chuang had won the $25,000 ITF Challenger in Delhi recently, beating Sania Mirza in the final.
Another Indian girl, Ankita Bhambri went down with guns blazing against Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei, who was ranked in the top-150 and was one of the best juniors in the region. Ankita lost 7-6(10), 3-6, 1-6. In the men's doubles, second-seeded Sunil Kumar and Vishaal Uppal beat Eduard Khan and Vaja Uzakov of Uzbekistan 6-4, 6-2.
