Field day for Indians

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 8. Indian shuttlers enjoyed a field day in the Asian Satellite badminton championship in Singapore on Wednesday as all the three singles players moved into the second round with relative ease.

Vidyadhar gave a brilliant start to India's campaign as he thrashed Kin Meng Hwang of Singapore 15-3, 15-2 in just 19 minutes before Anup Sridhar defeated Zi Liang Wong 15-12, 15-3 in 29 minutes, according to information received here.

Bhat joined the duo in the next round after beating Chin Wei Chua of Malaysia 15-7, 15-6.

Top ranked Indian woman Trupti Murgunde and prodigy Saina Nehwal would launch their campaign tomorrow.

In the women's doubles, Nehwal teamed up with Sharada Govardhini to beat Jill Vanessa Poo and Macey Tan of Singapore 15-3, 15-2 in just 16 minutes. They now meet the third seed Singaporean pair of Shinta Mulya Sari and Aiying Xing. — PTI
