IFFCO plant to produce granular urea

MADIKERI, SEPT. 8. The overseas plant of Indian Farmers' Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) will produce granular urea from July 2005, according to the Joint General Manager (Marketing) of IFFCO and in-charge of south zone, C.S. Rao.

Addressing managers and officials of agriculture produce marketing cooperative societies and the vyavasaya seva sahakara sangha niyamita here on Tuesday, Mr. Rao said the plant was being set up in the Sultanate of Oman. The plant would initially produce 16 lakh tonnes of nitrogen-efficient granular urea. Dr. Rao said granular urea from Oman would reach the Mangalore and Kochi ports for supply in the south zone comprising Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Marketing

As part of its programme to involve more women in the network, IFFCO would invite self-help groups to market fertilizers manufactured in its four plants. He invited self-help groups in Kodagu to become part of the cooperative movement.

Dr. Rao said IFFCO would offer free e-mail facilities to cooperative societies interested in acquiring them.

The company had supplied over 100 agri-portals in the country. He appealed to members of cooperative societies to help IFFCO make greater stridesin the future.
